Why does the Sundance Ranch have such a long adoption process?
Like most large sanctuaries the Sundance Ranch has its adoption process in place for 3 reasons.
1) It allows the sanctuary to check references, veterinary references and other factors. This allows us to weed out any potential threats to the the animals. For example humans who adopt cats to breed them.
2) It allows the potential adopters to be sure they are ready for a cat or kitten. Adoption is a life long process. A cat can live more than 15 years.
3) It prevents the "oh so cute factor". In this day and age of instant everything, people see a cute kitten, adopt it on the spot and then find out later that they can't care for the animal. Then that animal has to come back to us and we start over again.
80% of all "instant" adoptions end up failing.
And really the adoption process isn't long. It takes 3-5 days to adopt a cat or kitten. |
